PostSubject: Private Property   Private Property I_icon_minitimeThu Oct 16, 2008 12:32 am

I have begun studying anarchism, and i have already noticed something i do not like. (Surprise Surprise, Heh?)

Private Property will be "abolished," in this sense, it means no more private property (Obviously) Something that i have been paying for, since i achieved any. Now, with a change in government, you lose private property, and people may come onto what should respectfully be yours, with no punishment and no way to remove them (If your elderly perchance).

This land is not mine, but it is while im paying for it and living in it, and now that a government changes, i cannot have it anymore, no matter how much i would like to have it. WOOW.

well, even though i'm sure you already made the distinction, i just want to clear up the difference between personal and private property here, for they are NOT one and the same

private property is things like land, factories, etc. - things that are used by everyone, but owned by one person....that's the way i like to phrase it, but there is probably a more precise way

personal property is things like a computer, a book, shoes, a shirt, etc. - things that are used by one person at a time, and so (rightly) "owned" by one person at a time

into specific solutions for your proposed situation:

you may not be able to OWN the land, but you can certainly work on it - if its communal land, anyone in the commune can use the land as the commune decides it to be used (by a consensus vote)

if this land is not a commune's land, or used collectively by another group already, you may use it as you please....

the idea is that we should approach problems and solve them with democratic means, instead of the barbaric ways of capitalism (i.e. do it, or i shoot you)

note how there is a type of "ownership" in my suggestion, its just not private, its collective. there may be "private" property for those who wish to exercise such a thing...as long as its land not needed by a commune or something (think of how capitalism deals with people who want to start a commune in a social democratic nation.....)

that's just my idea though, kencat, how would you go about solving this?

that wasnt really the point i was trying to make, i ment, like what if i dont want some people in my yard, maybe i just plain dislike the person and i dont want them trespassing, when its abolished, and no police, how am i to go about this, just beat them? Im hoping not, that would be a tad barbaric for solutions..

no, lol, there are many proposed solutions

if it was more serious than trespassing, there would be "people's courts"

if its just trespassing, you could make a complaint....i mean, think of the commune as your group of friends....everyone is fairly close, and if for whatever reason you and your friend have a fight, the other members in the group intervene to try and find a solution.....right? at least that's my personal experience

if all else fails, you or him could leave the commune (with the help of the commune, of course, its not a punishment, just a sort of extreme solution)

Anarchists believe that no one owns the land, it was there before us -- we can use it, work on it and share it. You'll still have all your things, but private property would cease to exist because it is unsustainable. It's unsustainable because the more one person expresses their "right" to private property, the less a next person can. Pure private property would result in mass monopolization of corporations, and people like you and me could not have anywhere to stay.

You could settle a serious dispute in a people's democratic court system, though "trespassing" could be settled with a talk to a person.

"Anarchists believe that no one owns the land"
even if i have paid for it my entire life, resourced it, improved it, keep it working and in tip-top shape, it is still not ours, we're just using it?

In an anarchist society, you wouldn't have to pay for it! No taxes! haha
